We built ours the opposite way round. We don’t want to own. It's free, there's no account, and your file never actually leaves your computer. Here's the story.
Why we made it
At OONOO we focus on making data ownership the new standard: the idea that your files are yours, and you should never have to wonder what happens to them after you hit "send." That belief runs through everything we build, like our file transfers, view only, and agreements.
But sometimes you HAVE to send your files over email. Some services do not accept File Transfer links or View Only files. Or in cases when you need to upload a document on a designated website. There is still a way to protect your data. Watermarks.
Now for free. Because if that introduces a few more people to the idea that privacy tools don't have to be a hassle, that's a win for us.
Why it's safe
Your file is never uploaded anywhere.
When you drop a PDF or an image in, everything happens right there in your browser, on your machine. The watermarking, the preview, the download, all of it runs locally. There's no server in the middle quietly keeping a copy. We don't store your file because we never receive it in the first place. There's nothing for us to see, sell, leak, or forget to delete.
That's a real difference. Most online watermark tools have to upload your document to process it, which means for a moment your contract or your client's proofs are sitting on someone else's computer. Ours doesn't work that way, confidential agreements, drafts, private photos: it all stays with you.
No signup. No account. No usage limit. No catch. Turn off your wifi and try it. It'll still work, because there was never anything being sent.
Why it's actually good to use
We put some thought into the controls:
- Text or logo. Type in a name (yours or the receivers) a date, "DRAFT," "CONFIDENTIAL," the specific use for the file, whatever you need, or load your own logo as the watermark.
- Full control over the look. Colour, opacity, size, rotation and position are all yours to play with until it covers the file in the way you need it to.
- Single, tiled or mirrored. Drop one clean mark in a corner, tile it across the whole page so it can't be cropped out, or mirror it.
- PDFs and images both. Works with PDF, JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP.
- Ready-made badges. If you don't have a logo, there's a set of copyright free seals and badges you can click to load and tweak in seconds.
And it's fast. Because there's no upload and no waiting on a server, the preview updates as you go and the download is basically instant.
What people use it for
A watermark does two things very well: it marks something as yours, and it makes it traceable.
Freelancers and studios stamp client proofs and drafts so unpaid work can't quietly become the final version. Businesses add a recipient's name and date to contracts and confidential documents, so if a file ever leaks, the watermark shows exactly when it went out and to whom. Photographers and artists drop a logo on portfolio images to make casual reuse visible.
It's one layer of protection, and an easy one to add. If you need proper control over a file, watermarking pairs nicely with view-only sharing (where the recipient can look but never download), an NDA or copyright agreement attached to the transfer, or a link that expires. But even on its own, a good watermark is often enough to make someone think twice.
